While the “season” has not officially started, we have the privilege of guiding the entire eighth-grade class from Freeport, Maine’s Merriconeag Waldorf School on their end-of-year trip. Several of Apogee’s tried and true leaders, Mike Lessard, Julie Levine, Susie Hufstader, and Nick Smith are biking through Vermont’s verdant hill and dale this week with 17 awesome soon-to-be high schoolers and their teacher. After some heavy rain (and ominous, if unfounded, predictions of golf-ball sized hail) yesterday that kept our intrepid crew under shelter, our group cruised through their nineteen miles today under sunny skies. The morning sun motivated the group to get on the road by 8:00, and by 9:30, they had ridden over half of their mileage for the day. With high spirits, they finished their ride by lunchtime, set up camp, and spent the afternoon in the campground pool. Everyone is looking forward to more good weather and a big night out in Burlington tomorrow!
