Day 45: The Final Full Day

Departures are in the air today, as today we completed our last full day in the field for our Apogee summer. We are so exceedingly proud of the whole Apogee community – our leaders, our students, their families and friends, our community partners – for helping to build the most wonderful summer we could have hoped for. Read on to hear what our crews got up to today! And what better way to celebrate the second to last blog of the summer (!) with an early post?

Alaska Mountains & Coast (AKMC)

After 12 incredible days in Alaska, Apogee is saying “see you next summer” to the last frontier. After a final dinner last night, we said goodbye to AKMC3 today. We will miss them all dearly!

Alps Explorer (AX)

After traveling over many mountain passes, we are saying au revoir, auf Wiedersehen, arrivederci, and goodbye to our lovely crew of Alps Explorers today. We wish them safe travels on their next adventure!

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

Have you heard the keyboards click-clacking away? We bet you have, because the MCCE team has been hard at work on their college essays! On their final day together, the studious MCCE students had a final editing session this morning before a memorable ceremony where they shared their essays with each other at The Giant’s Stairs in Harpswell, Maine. In between, they also ripped through a spikeball tournament and relay race for a change of pace. After enjoying one final dinner together tonight, MCCE will soak in their last moments together with s’mores and stargazing. The group will leave tomorrow with rich experiences, new friends, and awesome college essays!

The MCJ crew started their day by doing a morning of volunteering with Growing to Give! After spending some time working on the local farm, this stellar team explored some local Maine towns before their final dinner. While sad to say goodbye tomorrow, they are enjoying one final night together!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)

Maine’s Downeast Explorers indeed explored all over Maine during their 12 days together! They kayaked back to shore this morning before heading back into Portland for a celebratory final dinner. We will miss these courageous adventurers, and we are so excited for them to go off on their next adventure!

New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)

The NEMC team enjoyed their morning on the water and had a blast paddling around the Maine coast in their kayaks! After splashing around and sharing lots of laughs, they went back to camp to get cleaned up before their lovely final dinner together. We’re sure there was a ton of laughter and smiles as they celebrated their awesome accomplishments and shared their favorite memories from their time together over the past eight days!
