Up here in Maine, we have a foot of snow on the ground and woke up to negative temperatures today. Even our scarves are wearing scarves on a day like today. Admittedly, summer seems like a long, long way down the road – but it sure is nice to think about!
As some of you know, your humble Apogee directors are going out on the road starting next week to share stories and pictures about our summer programs with families and students all over this fair land (you can see our schedule here…). January is usually one of the biggest months we have for students applying for our trips – and we like to have a little something to thank our January families. To that end, we’ve prepared what is probably the sweetest January Thank You gift we’ve ever had. Honestly, were the holidays not just behind us, this would have been at the top of everyone’s list – if they only knew what to ask for. “What is it,” you are breathlessly asking at this point. Wonder no more, friends! This year, we’re thanking everyone who signs up in the month of the January with an official BPA-free, 32-ounce, Nalgene water bottle, proudly emblazoned with the Apogee logo. And – the best part – it glows! I know, how cool is that?
Imagine the uses: power’s out and you need to see where you left your keys? Thirsty? Two birds – one stone! Or – you’re in the woods at night and want to create a gourmet dinner with the wild enoki mushrooms you came across and the salmon you just pulled from the river but your headlamp isn’t working? No problem – bring out your trusty Apogee glow bottle. I could keep going – alright, one more – you’re fording a river in the Amazon, it’s pitch black and you drop your flashlight into the murky water. What’s that? Uh-oh – you’re surrounded by piranhas! You need light to scare them off (everyone knows that piranhas are scared of glowing objects) – what to do? You remember, in the nick of time, that you submitted your Europe Coast to Coast application in January and that, yes, you do have your glow bottle with you – you bring it out of your pack, wave it at the fish, the piranhas scatter, you cross to the other side, and then take a sip of cool, cool water from that same bottle – whew, made it! Endless uses! And if you get us your application for any of our summer trips before the end of January – you, too, will be rocking the glow bottle. Pictures are below – daylight is on the right…
That’s all from Maine for now – hope to see you on the road over the next month or so!
