On this day, 49 years ago in 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to step foot on the moon. Ever since, July 21st has been recognized (by some) as a day to accomplish challenging missions, tackle adventure, and take on risk! So, what did our wonderful Apogee Adventure’ers do on this special day?! In today’s blog we will get to see what is happening on each Apogee trip and the new, exciting, never before seen steps that are being taken by all of our amazing students.

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)
Surf’s up for these Cape Cod students as they hopped off their bikes and took to the waves. They had a blast surfing and playing games on White Crest Beach. In the afternoon they headed back to camp to make the most of their ‘rest day’ to relax and recharge!
New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)
These New England Mountains & Coast kids enjoyed a day on the water as they kayaked some of Maine’s beautiful coastline! Tonight a wonderful dinner in Portland is on the docket to celebrate their last day on trip!
Caribbean Service (CS)
Caribbean Service had a wonderful day of service at Puerto Mulas Lighthouse! They logged some solid hours of volunteer work; cleaning up debris and areas of the lighthouse that were damaged in the hurricane. They ended the day with ice cream after a long day of hard work! Way to go, CS!
Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA)
Today the troopers of DEXA woke up early and put their tracks across Cadillac Mountain, a popular Maine peak. They were met at the top of the mountain with a beautiful sunrise and a much welcomed breakfast! Breakfast and a view?! Luxury at its finest for these explorers.
Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXB)
DEXB emerged from the back country today after a wonderful 2 days on the Appalachian Trail. They headed into Baxter State Park to continue exploring and found some wonderful swimming spots and ice cream for all to enjoy!
Vermont to Montréal A (VMA)
All for one and one for all, this crew is headed to Montreal! They left Burlington today and rode to Grand Isle. The peaceful bike path leaving Burlington and the bike ferry across the Causeway into the islands of Lake Champlain were top highlights of the day! They also saw their first sign for Montreal! That must be a sign they should bike there, right?
Vermont to Montréal B (VMB)
VMB took to the bike path today, without their bikes! They split up into two teams this morning to see who could do the most ‘greening up’ for their community service hours. This featured (self-named) team, “The dirty dumpster divers” put in some great work and were not afraid to get their hands dirty! They got to see what Burlington was all about and also enjoyed a wonderful VERMONSTER!
Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)
CRMC embraced the spirit of July 21st by doing all sorts of activities! They started by hiking into town to explore the local culture and then found a beautiful place to cool off and swim! They played soccer and had a busy afternoon of Apo-Oympics. It is safe to say they are embracing everything San Gerardo de Rivas has to offer!
California Mountains & Coast (CMCA) & (CMCB)
Both California Mountains & Coast trips headed into the back country today! This means that they were unable to send stellar blog photos due to minimal cellular service. We are oh so excited for their return to get photographic evidence of all the amazing things they encountered on their first day!
Pyrenees Mountains & Coast (PMC)
On this day, PMC hiked 12 kilometers from Refugi Colomina to Espot. The municipality of Espot, lies in the valley of the River Escrita. It is a beautiful Pyrenean village that holds quintessential culture of northern Spain. Beautiful place & beautiful people!! Find a better pair, I’ll wait…
Scottish Highlands (SH)
The Scottish Highland clan made their way to Kinlochleven today. They hiked a steady 10 miles which included the ‘Devils Staircase’. We were assured it was not as daunting as the name may make it sound. They enjoyed a lovely dessert topped with mini-marshmallows. Great Scot! That looks tasty!
Europe Coast to Coast (ECC)
This day in ECC has been quoted as, “Maybe the single best day of riding of the entire trip. Beautiful every step of the way and you take in three countries!” They rode a whopping 78 kilometers through a medieval village, near the Estch River and along the border of Italy AND Switzerland. ‘Ya know, no big deal, just your laid back average Saturday’ – said by no one! Ever!
America Coast to Coast (ACC1)
CENTURY RIDE! This amazing crew of humans tackled 107 miles today on their bikes. They rode with strength and vigor making their way, further still, across the never ending state of Texas. Now only 45 miles from the border of New Mexico, there are only a two states between them and the ever elusive San Diego.
America Coast to Coast (ACC2)
Today these fine folks made their mark (tire marks) across 69 miles of beautiful Texan road! From Jacksboro to Throckmorton, TX, these peeps are crushing the whole ‘biking across the country’ thing. ACC2, we love you!
