A 2009 graduate of Bowdoin College, veteran Apogee leader Nick Smith is fired up to lead our America Coast to Coast trip…for the second time! Yes, it’s true; Nick can’t get enough of the ACC and the incredible young people it attracts. He knows the ins and outs of Apogee’s route and can’t wait to share every bit of it with a new group.
Nick did, however, take a little time out of the saddle over the winter to teach chemistry and coach hockey, soccer and lacrosse at the Taft School in Watertown, CT. Nick grew up the oldest of three in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, in his words, “on a dirt road with essentially the state of Maine as my back yard.” He spent his childhood hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, sea kayaking and backpacking with his family. In high school, Nick attended St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire where he pursued his passions for soccer, lacrosse, and especially, ice hockey. Nick’s love for hockey continued in college where he played goalie for Bowdoin. He majored in neuroscience and has plans to go to medical school. Some of his other involvements in college were campus tour guide, Outing Club trip leader, mentor and tutor. Nick also spent many hours volunteering at a local hospital and served as vice president of Bowdoin Men Against Sexual Violence. He also enjoys rock-climbing, triathlons and fly-fishing. With an infectious zeal for life and boundless determination, Nick is sure to inspire his ACC crew this summer. Nick is a Wilderness First Responder and is certified in CPR.
