Apogee Community Service Partner Spotlight: Growing to Give

At Apogee Adventures, giving back is at the heart of what we do. Through our hiking, biking, and service trips for teens, we empower young adventurers to make a difference in the communities we visit, and by intentionally engaging with the beautiful natural spaces we explore, we aim to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

One of our most fulfilling community service partnerships is with Growing to Give, a Brunswick-based nonprofit dedicated to growing organic vegetables for families in need while promoting sustainable farming practices. Since 2021, 233 Apogee students and 71 leaders have collectively logged over 1,000 hours of volunteer work with Growing to Give.

But this partnership is about so much more than just logging hours – it’s about creating lasting, transformative experiences while making a tangible difference in our community. By (very literally) getting our hands dirty in hands-on community service projects like these, not only do our students experience a sense of environmental stewardship and help provide food security; they also develop key life skills, such as teamwork, confidence, and compassion, along with instilling a deep sense of purpose and accomplishment.

It’s not just hard work, either – at Apogee, we believe that every summer adventure should be both meaningful and fun. One of the main reasons we love working with Growing to Give is their ability to transform an afternoon of weeding on a hot July day into a rewarding, enjoyable experience. Feedback from our students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive: the Growing to Give staff is amazing, the groups have a blast, and the sense of accomplishment that our students feel after contributing to a cause they care about makes the hard work more than worth it.

Yes, waterguns are commonplace on hot summer days

Speaking of contributing to a cause: over the past four years, 11 to 14-year-olds from our Maine Coast Junior and New England Mountains & Coast trips have helped Growing to Give donate over 100,000 pounds of fresh produce to local families in need—a truly transformative impact!

Are you ready to make a difference? This summer, experience the best of outdoor adventure while contributing to impactful community service projects. Whether you are hiking scenic trails, biking along stunning coastlines, collaboratively writing your college essay, or volunteering with incredible organizations like Growing to Give, our programs are designed to empower and inspire.
