Day 3: Ferries, Ropes Courses, and Essay Drafts – Sounds Like an Apogee Summer to Us!

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJ, CI, NEMC, MCCE, DEX

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

A bit of a rainy, Maine morning did not damper the spirits of these young adventurers! Due to inclement weather,  MCJ’s original plan to sea kayak in Acadia was postponed. The group instead hiked up Morse Mountain in Brunswick and then stopped along the beach to play their new favorite game, Jedi Juice! With high spirits, the group then headed off to Acadia National Park for the next few days of hiking, biking and camping. Nothing can stop this group from having fun and exploring!

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

The CI students were ready to go bright and early this morning to peddle down through the Shining Sea Bike Path to Woods Hole. After this scenic 11 mile bike ride, students hopped on board a ferry to head over to the exquisite Martha’s Vineyard where they will spend their next few days (lucky ducks!). Aboard the ferry, the were witness to the breathtaking views of the Nantucket Sound. But once the sea breeze started nipping at their ears, they ducked inside to create some good ol’ friendship bracelets. After the ferry, they jumped right back onto their bikes for a short 7 mile ride to their campground. Here, the group relaxed on the beach and wrapped up their day with delicious food and laughs.

New England Mountains & Coast (NEMC)

It’s day two for NEMC and they were up and at ’em this morning – waking up for more adventure under the beautiful sunshine of New Hampshire. The group packed up and headed to Browne center to complete a high ropes course. They celebrated their tree and rope climbing morning with a delicious lunch in a yurt. After this adventure, they were off to their campground in Bartlett to spend another wonderful night bonding and growing closer as an Apogee family.

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

Sunday night was a rousing jam session around the fire and the group has deemed themseves “the most musical Apogee group ever” (and for our end, it sounds like they aren’t wrong!) Monday morning brought cozy rain — good conditions to get the writing flowing in the cabin. Students began developing rough drafts for their essays and each met 1:1 with Leah, their writing instructor. They then bopped over to Bates for a college admissions session with Jared, the Dean of Admissions for a conversation around what admissions officers look for in a solid essay. Great vibes all around!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEX)

After saying goodbye to parents in Brunswick, students met the many new faces of the friends they’re going to enjoy this adventure with. The group started their trip by heading down to Camden, ME where they set up camp, played some games and ate food. Sounds like they are off to an amazing start and we can’t see what’s in store for them next!
