Day 30: Self-Care Sunday!

It truly was a Sunday Fun-day for Apogee today! All across the map our students had a blast being outdoors and making new friendships & memories. While some trips came to a close today, others just began and we’re so excited! Safe travels to everybody heading home, and to our newcomers, welcome! And to our readers, we hope you are practicing some sort of self care today even if it means taking a bubble bath and watching the Bachelor (Team Greg anyone?)

Skip to a Specific Trip: MCJ, CI, NEMCANEMCB, CS, MCCE, DEXAB, VLCAVLCBCRMCCMC, GSA, AKMCAB, NWXA, NWXB, PC, ACC1, ACC2

Maine Coast Junior (MCJ)

Warmest welcomes to our new MCJ crew! Leaders Anna & Duncan were so excited to meet their group and start their trip. Once everyone was picked up, they set up camp back in Brunswick to prepare for their sea kayaking exploration tomorrow. Adventure awaits!

Cape Cod & the Islands (CI)

CI had a great morning volunteering at The Island Growth Initiative farm! They had some fun in the dirt and helped out with the gardens while also learning about the importance of supplying local and nutritious food to the Martha’s Vineyard community. Leader Ben said, “We cut herbs, cut and packaged micro greens, painted crop tags, and tied bunches of garlic together!”  After their time at the farm they spent the rest of the day walking around and exploring the shops and other attractions that Martha’s Vineyard has to offer.

New England Mountains & Coast A (NEMCA)

NEMCA spent the morning doing team-building activities and challenging their skills on a ropes course! After lunch, they loaded into the van and headed toward the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where they will be setting up camp for a few days.

Rain didn’t stop our NEMCA’ers!

New England Mountains & Coast B (NEMCB)

NEMCB started their day engaging in team-building exercises and having their skills challenged by a ropes course. After the morning activities they had lunch and started their transit to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Tomorrow they’ll be doing their first day hike!

Caribbean Service (CS)

¡Hasta Luego, CS! We wish you good luck and safe travels on your journeys home. Kendra, Kramer, and all of your new Apogee family will miss you dearly.

P.S. Rumor has it, this group set the record for most games played on an Apogee trip

Maine Coast College Essay (MCCE)

These exceptional essayists are settled down in their yurts and are ready to craft their college essays with the guidance of Sage, Chuck, and writing instructor Leah. In their first group workshop, Leah encouraged them to think of the essay as more of a story rather than an essay. The creative juices will be flowing in no time!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA&B)

Today we said goodbye to our lovely DEX A & B groups. We hope you enjoyed your time exploring Maine and building lifelong friendships. We hope to see you again soon!

Vermont & Lake Champlain A (VLCA)

Just keep cycling (x3)! The VLCA crew biked a solid 31 miles today through the unbelievable Vermont farmland where they hopefully befriended some cows and horses from afar! We know clean clothes have given each and everyone a big boost today! From inside their tents, they are about 5 miles from Canada – how cool, eh?

Vermont & Lake Champlain B (VLCB)

After a relaxing day on the water yesterday, Miles, Ellie, and their crew hit the roads again. With Miley Cyrus’ melodious voice coaching them up today’s cliiiiiiiiiiiimb, they crushed the rolling hills that Vermont threw at them! Nice work and we know they will enjoy their clean laundry tonight!

Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)

Adios amigos! We can’t believe your time exploring Costa Rica is up! Wishing you safe travels, bittersweet hugs, and memories that will last a lifetime!

California Mountains & Coast (CMC)

Another trip we have to say farewell to – the summer is flying by! We hope you loved hiking and kayaking in the Golden State and made some ~golden~ friendships! Have a safe journey home and we hope to have you back here in the near future.

Golden State Adventure (GSA)

All smiles for this place of wonder! Harrison, Amelia, and company enjoyed a hike today in Harmon Canyon Preserve – how dreamy! Here’s a California fun fact for you – in the summer months, the Sierra Nevada surprises and delights visitors with its magnificent “watermelon snow.” As a result of microscopic algae, pink-tinted snow drapes the mountains, and some even say it smells and tastes just like watermelon – yum!?

Alaska Mountains & Coast B (AKMC A & B)

Farewell to our northernmost Apogee groups! We hope your time in the Last Frontier was full of amazing views, beautiful wildlife, and friendships that will last beyond your Apogee years. We hope to see you soon. Take care, polar bear <3.

Northwest Explorer (NWXA)

Carpe Diem! Today, NWXA prepped for their backcountry excursion tomorrow and then enjoyed a day hike in Olympic National Park! Get excited kids – Tommy and Emma are about to lead you into one of the most beautiful parts of the US!

Northwest Explorer (NWXB)

After spending the night on an island, NWB took a day kayak trip to Strawberry Island with their wonderful guides who are near and dear to the Apogee family. What a way to spend a day!

Pacific Coast (PC)

Our prized PC’ers took Oregon by storm after getting comfortable on their bikes yesterday. They are unstoppable – they crushed a set of hills called the 7 devils today! Did you know that in Oregon, they call potato wedges JoJo’s? I think I found my new favorite word!

America Coast to Coast 1 (ACC1)

ACC1 continued to literally consume miles for breakfast, brunch, lunch, linner (or dunch), dinner, and dessert. They rode into Socorro and are ready to enjoy a much deserved rest day tomorrow.

America Coast to Coast 2 (ACC2)

Second day in New Mexico, woo hoo! Today, Nicole, Christian, and their squad rolled into Roswell, NM after an astounding 75 miles. Not only is Roswell the 5th largest city in New Mexico, but in 2012 it became the center of science and adventure, when “Fearless Felix Baumgartner” jumped from a world record of 128,100 feet from a balloon! I would definitely say these ACC2’ers are as fearless as Felix!

What’s your self-care routine? We would love to know.
