Day 27: We’re in Apogee Heaven!

Happy Thursday, Apogee Fam! We had an eventful day here in the Apogee-verse full of snorkeling, hiking & backpacking, biking through rolling hills and small towns, and another state-border crossing! These amazing groups can’t be stopped and won’t be slowing down any time soon. Scroll down to see what everybody’s been up to.

Skip to a Specific Trip: CSDEXA, DEXB, VLCAVLCBCRMCCMCAKMCA, AKMCBACC1, ACC2

Caribbean Service (CS)

The sun shined bright over Vieques today as our students cooled off in the ocean and went snorkeling! After their morning adventure amongst the sea life, they participated in a beach cleanup. Kudos for leaving the beach better than how you found it, CS!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXA)

Us office folk were treated with a quick hello as DEXA swung by to grab their mail and other Apogee goodies. They spent the rest of this gorgeous Maine summer day hiking at beautiful Morse Mountain before getting organized for their overnight kayaking trip tomorrow!

Maine’s Downeast Explorer (DEXB)

Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, Out of the Backcountry We Go! Today our amazing DEXB’ers successfully exited the backcountry and spent the day resupplying and doing laundry. They also had the opportunity to soak up the sun and explore Baxter State Park.

Vermont & Lake Champlain A (VLCA)

Tour de France who? VLCA was welcomed by more picturesque farmland and quiet country roads as they pedaled 26 miles to Shelburne, VT today. They spent the afternoon at the wonderful campsite which included hot showers, a pool, and flat, grassy spots perfect for tents! What more could you ask for!

Vermont & Lake Champlain B (VLCB)

More miles bring more smiles! VLCB had a breeze of a ride today as they made their way through the historic town of Middlebury over to New Haven! They stopped to explore for a bit and have lunch before making it over to camp. They’re looking forward to resting up tonight so that they can take on the rolling hills tomorrow over to Shelburne!

Costa Rica Mountains & Coast (CRMC)

Buen día, CRMC! Our crew woke up bright and early this morning to hike out of the mountains so that they could transit to the lush coastal city of Uvita. Fun Fact! In Spanish, “Uvita,” means “Little Grape.” Tomorrow, CRMC will quite literally be diving into their adventure as they snorkel to Caño Island. Stay tuned for their fun in the sun!

California Mountains & Coast (CMC)

“Honey, I’m home!” After several days experiencing the true beauty and glory of the outdoors, CMC left the incredible Yosemite behind and reunited with their van. (Wonder if they named it…) They headed back to Manteca, CA, where they resupplied and took well-deserved showers. For some strange reason, in their limited cell service, we received several (epic) photos, but they were tiny and low quality. So here’s a sample, and we’ll hope to upload better versions tomorrow!

Alaska Mountains & Coast A (AKMCA)

The Alaska Mountains and Coast crew finished up their kayaking stretch today and is back on land! There is absolutely no shortage of epic-ness on this trip and today was no exception. Kayaking, wild-life spotting, transporting, camping, bonding. Just another day in the life of an AKMCA student!

Alaska Mountains & Coast B (AKMCB)

Day 2 in the Chugach Backcountry for AKMCB! The group had another fantastic day of backcountry hiking and exploring in the Alaskan wilderness. Open skies, majestic mountains, pristine alpine lakes, and abundant wildflowers. What more could you ask for? Fingers crossed for some spectacular blog photos soon!

America Coast to Coast 1 (ACC1)

BONJOUR CENTENNIAL RIDE! ACC1 has ridden just shy of 100 miles multiple times (I am utterly impressed reading the mileages that they do every dang day) but TODAY THEY RODE 107 MILES TO NEW MEXICO. That is actually AMAZING. 107 miles…in one day…that’s a hefty amount of miles to drive!!! And they biked it!! We are so proud of our mighty falcons!

America Coast to Coast 2 (ACC2)

On Day 23 of these master bikers’ enormous adventure, they biked 88 miles all the way to Jayton, TX. With a tiny population of about 530 people, our 14 members of ACC make up over 2% of the population today – how cool!
