Leader Bios: Meet Rob & Jeanne!

Rob Young – Office Intern

width=Hailing from Cleveland Ohio, Rob Young is excited to get to Maine to join us as an Office Intern! Rob is rising senior at St. Lawrence University, where he studies Economics and Business with a minor in Outdoor Studies. Rob was exposed to the outdoors through summers at Camp Dudley on Lake Champlain growing up. However, it was a NOLS course in the Wind River Range during high school that solidified his love of outdoor adventure. When he’s not studying at St. Lawrence, he can be found spending his free time fly fishing, golfing, canoeing, sailing, and exploring the Adirondacks. A guide for the St. Lawrence Outdoor Program, Rob has also taught classes in outdoor studies, and guided many trips for fellow students. This fall Rob will be spending a semester abroad in Kenya, during which he hopes to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro! Away from the St. Lawrence community, Rob has had significant experience travelling and working with young people. As a camp counselor at Pine Island Camp in Belgrade Lakes, Maine, Rob was the head riflery instructor, and two summers ago he coached squash and provided mentorship and academic support for students at Urban Squash Cleveland. To round out his interests (and use his dual degree), Rob spent last summer working for an independent investment advisory in Cleveland. It is safe to say that his attention to detail, love of the outdoors, and experience with kids makes Rob the perfect man for the Apogee job!

Jeanne Ringwald – Office Intern

width=Jeanne Ringwald grew up in a family that encouraged travel and gaining new experiences. With her family by her side, Jeanne has explored parts of Europe, South America, and the United States. A recent graduate of NYU, Jeanne studied Social Work and Child Mental Health; she also sang in an all-female a cappella group! Outside of school, Jeanne’s interest in working with kids and her love of adventure go back many years – she was a camper at the YMCA Camp Chingachgook growing up, where she went on to be a counselor for three consecutive summers. As a counselor, Jeanne was primarily in charge of caring for a cabin of eleven- to twelve-year-olds. In 2015, Jeanne took a year away from NYU to participate in a NOLS semester program in the Southwestern United States, boosting her outdoor leadership skills while exploring a beautiful part of the country. From there, she traveled to Sydney, Australia, where she dedicated time to working with a charity that provided assistance to refugees and also helped out at an after-school program. In the summer of 2016, Jeanne headed back to the familiar Camp Chingachgook, this time in a new role – she spent the summer leading backpacking expeditions for fifteen- to sixteen-year-olds through the Adventure Camp program, and one of her groups summited all 46 Adirondack High peaks in under five weeks! Jeanne’s experience speaks for itself, but the energy and enthusiasm she brings to those around her makes her the perfect fit for any Apogee family. After two summers in the field leading both our California Mountains & Coast and then Alps Explorer, we are excited to have her experience, excitement, and expertise behind the scenes as an Office Intern this year!
