Day 25 – Part 1 – Lots of Sunset/Sunrise Shots

This is likely to be another Two-Part Tuesday, as we have a lot of pictures from across the country to fit in to today’s blog – a surprising number of which involve either the sunrise or the sunset.

The sun never sets on the Apogee empire – at least figuratively. Speaking of the empire, we’re now fully bi-coastal again, with trips operating on within sight of both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts tonight.

First, to our Coast to Quebecers, both groups are in Camden tonight. Corley and Andy’s group did some serious trail maintenance today, hauling signage up to the top of Ragged Mountain as part of an ongoing Land Trust project. See the first picture below. Jess and Pete’s group will be continuing the project tomorrow — but they had to get there first. Jess sent in the gorgeous, roseate shot below of the group taking in the sunrise at Pemaquid Point this morning.

Also local, but sadly now defunct, our latest New England Mountains & Coast trip came to its conclusion this morning. The group had a fantastic meal at Portland’s Flatbread last night, and followed it up with a final “A&P” right there on the Maine State Pier. David sent in another very nicely arranged sunset shot of the group enjoying their last night together.

I had a chance to talk to Rachel and Drew earlier — their group had an amazing experience on the water in Isle au Haut Bay. Working with the Maine Island Trail Association, they picked up about 250 pounds of boat debris over the course of three days! When I heard from them today, they had just done a big re-supply shop in Ellsworth and were greatly looking forward to crossing the bridge on to Mount Desert Island, the famed home of Acadia National Park. They’ll be dusting off their boots for the next couple of days on the sea-side trails in the Park, swimming in Echo Lake, the Pearl of MDI, and maybe even sampling the salt-water taffy with the cruise-ship crowd in Bar Harbor. Rachel sent in this great shot of the group taking aim, or saluting, or something…, on an Acadia mountaintop.
