Day 22 – Around the Horn

Another busy day around the Apogee horn, friends. No trip starts today, but all sorts of movement around these United States related to our humble trips. To the field!

On the Cape, both of our groups are, as I type, done with the bike-riding portion of their trip. Lucas, Danika and their group powered up and over the biggest hills of the trip on their way in to Provincetown to catch the ferry to Boston this afternoon. Lucas sent in the below picture (I’ve got to get him to take these seaside shots in the afternoon when the kids aren’t backlit — but we’re thankful he has your childrens’ safety at the forefront of his mind rather than cell-phone picture composition…). Meanwhile, Wyatt, Chrissy & Co. wrapped up their community service project at the Farm Institute and paused to send in the second picture below — straight from the farm. They were headed to Woods Hole and on to Boston tonight. Both groups will enjoy a sticky, humid day to explore Boston tomorrow and will, no doubt, be reminiscing for the cool ocean breezes they enjoyed on the Cape!

It was toasty up here in Maine today, too. Corley and Andy sent in the below shot of their group enjoying a shady spot en route this afternoon. Pete and Jess, meanwhile, spent the day on a day ride around Freeport and are, no doubt, swimming in the waters of Casco Bay right now, given that there is a perfect spot for swimming at the foot of their campsite. And down the Coast in Stonington, our Downeast Explorers are the coolest of the bunch, camping on a remote island in Isle au Haut Bay tonight. Just to the west of the Maine border, our NEMC-ers summitted the 5260-ft Mt. Lafayette this morning. They’re headed our way tomorrow, for several hours of community service with a local land trust.

And down in Texas, Cait sent in the below shot of the gang enjoying some celebratory half-way ice cream in Aspermont, Texas, on their way to Jayton tonight. They’ve been riding a long time, and my goodness, they still have a long way to go. But they are veritable dynamos — and with visions of Pacific waves dancing in front of them (or maybe those are just delusions brought on by Texas heat…), they’re going to get there, by golly.
